The "Spitzer effect" on mutual fund settlements

An unpublished study by Eric Zitzewitz of Dartmouth College says that the involvement of former New York attorney general Eliot Spitzer, or even the threat of New York involvement, led to substantially higher settlements in mutual fund cases.
